  1. definition of short talks
short talks are kinds of spoken language we can find in work places, public services, travels and leisure situations. These talks will vary in level of formality and will include instructions, short speeches, offers, advertisements, reports, announcements and so on.

it is better to know about short talks since vocational students have exercises and exams in toeic oriented (toeic like). Short talk is the fourth part of listening section in the toeic test. In this part of the test, the students will hear several short talks. They will not see the talks printed in the test booklet, but they will see several written questions about the talks, with four written responses for each question. These are two kinds of questions related to short talks, those are :
  1. general information questions
this kind of questions concentrates on the main idea of the short talk. It usually considers question about the purpose of the talks, the location , the speakers, and so on.
  1. detailed information questions
to answer this kind of questions, we usually need to pay more attention to specific facts. Times, dates and so on that are given in the short talks.

  1. read the question first
reading the questions before listening to the talk can help us to focus our listening and may give us some idea of what the talk will be about. It can also let us know if we need to listen for general information or for details.
  1. Listen to the whole talk before trying to answer the questions
We should not try to answer the questions until we have heard the entire talk though it is a good idea to read the question before listening to the talk. There may be important details at  the end of the talk. We may also need to consider all the information presented to understand the main ideas or to make inferences.
  1. pay special attention to the introduction and the first part of the talk.
Before each short talk begins, we will hear the announcer says, questions, and , refer to the following (e.g, instruction, advertisement, announcement, etc. )
After we hear the announcer introduce the type of talk, we should listen very carefully to the first one or two sentences of the talk. These sentences can often help us understand who speaker is and where the talk takes place. Understanding the setting can help us prepare for and understand the rest of talk.

Activity
    1. Talk toomuch and discuss irrelevancies, departing from the point of questions. Usually worn in office.
    2. Wear clothes which are not usually worn in office.
    3. Be honest.
    4. Waste the interviewer’s time by attending whe i have no intention of accepting.
    5. Drees neatly but simply and be well- groomed.
    6. Chew gum and smoke in front of the intrviewer.
    7. Bring some paper. Apen, a pencil to write down everything necessary during the interview.
    8. Go to the interview with all my family to company me.
    9. Bring my jacket, raincot and umbrella into the interview room.
    10. Greet the interviewer by neme pronouching correctly.
    11. Arrive at least 15 minutes earlier so that i have enough time to calm down.
    12. Be afraid to look at the interview  room
    13. Remain standing until the interviewer asks me to sit down.
    14. Wear sunglasses in the interview room.
    15. fill out the company’s application form neatly and correctly.
